Investigate The Assassination
Why the Charlie Kirk Assassination Deserves a Public Investigation
(No, Really - Read This)
On September 10, 2025, Charlie Kirk (the founder and CEO of Turning Point USA) was shot and killed while speaking at a public event at Utah Valley University in front of roughly 3,000 people. [1] Tyler James Robinson, 22, has been charged with aggravated murder and faces the death penalty. He hasn't entered a plea. [2] That trial will determine whether Robinson pulled the trigger. But a trial is designed to answer one narrow question: did the defendant commit the crime? It is not designed to answer the much larger questions that have gone unanswered in the months since Kirk's death: questions about the integrity of the evidence, the scope of the investigation, and whether foreign money played a role in creating the conditions that led to his assassination. People who loved and cared for Charlie have questions, and they have reasons to be asking. Given the scale of TPUSA’s operations within the United States, these questions are fair to ask. If anyone alleges this is conspiratorial thinking, then that’s all the more reason why a public hearing will help clear the air. One the one hand, it could restore trust in institutions (which is critical for a democratic republic to survive) or on the other, it may uncover something that validates the present mistrust.
Why This Matters Beyond One Trial
Turning Point USA isn't a small advocacy group. It operates on more than 3,500 college campuses. It claims over 650,000 lifetime student members. It employs more than 450 staff and reported roughly $85 million in revenue in 2024. [3] It has been one of the most active organizations in the country in shaping who runs for office and who wins — actively campaigning to influence who will become the next President of the United States. When the leader of an organization with that kind of reach is assassinated at a public event, the public has a right to know what happened and why. Not as a matter of partisan politics — as a matter of national security and democratic accountability — especially when certain details don't add up, his friends are calling for oversight, conspiracy theories abound, and questions are being swept under the rug.
Besides the issues arising in the trial of Robinson, eyebrows are being raised about the crime scene itself. Within approximately one week of the assassination, while the murder investigation was still active, the ground where Kirk fell at Utah Valley University was excavated and permanently replaced with bricks and pavers. [4] No public explanation has been given. This may be typical procedure, but it has become a matter of public inquiry as to whether or not that is the case. It may have been to prevent evidence tampering, or it may have been evidence tampering itself. The public is unclear as to whether law enforcement authorized this, objected to it, or was even consulted. In any murder case, that would be a serious concern. In the assassination of one of the most politically influential figures in the country, it demands answers.
The Financial Questions
In the months before his death, multiple credible outlets (including the New York Times, Harper's Magazine, and the New York Post) reported that Kirk was under documented financial pressure from major donors. The pressure was allegedly tied specifically to his public and private positions on U.S. policy toward Israel. [5] [6] A TPUSA spokesman confirmed the authenticity of certain private communications related to this pressure. [7] Prime Minister of Israel, Bibi Netanyahu, made a public statement before the U.S. President got to, calling Kirk a “lion-hearted friend of Israel.” However, some of Charlie’s documented friends disagree, but without a formal inquiry, it will be difficult for the public to sort fact from fiction. Given U.S. ties to Israel coming under more intense scrutiny, this may be a thread worth pulling on.
Pressure from donors isn’t the only financial concern, however. TPUSA itself operates through at least four tax-exempt entities. Public filings for 2024 revealed $8.56 million in intercompany transfers to an affiliated entity that had previously reported zero employees but millions of dollars in salary expenditures. Three of the four entities' annual filings weren't even publicly available through standard nonprofit databases during the relevant period. [8] None of this proves wrongdoing. But when a political leader is assassinated after being financially pressured over foreign policy positions, and his organization's finances include millions in unexplained transfers, those are exactly the kinds of questions a congressional investigation exists to answer.
The Investigation That Was Shut Down
Perhaps most troubling: former Director of the National Counterterrorism Center Joe Kent has publicly stated that his office was directed to stop investigating potential foreign connections to the assassination. The investigation was reportedly routed exclusively to state authorities over the objections of counterterrorism officials. [9] If that account is accurate, it means the federal government's own counterterrorism apparatus was told to stand down on a case involving the assassination of a major political figure - at the very moment when foreign financial pressure on that figure was already publicly documented. The public deserves to know who gave that order and why.
What This Is and What It Isn't
This isn't about harassing Charlie Kirk's widow, his family, or his organization. It isn't about taking a political stance for or against Turning Point USA or anything it stands for. This isn’t about assuming what is true or untrue about the case. The bill section explicitly prohibits the commission from interfering with the criminal trial or making any finding about anyone's guilt or innocence. What it is about is holding power accountable if it needs to be. Turning Point USA is one of the most powerful political organizations in the country, and in the months before Kirk's death, it was changing direction: publicly challenging positions on foreign policy that some of its most powerful donors demanded it support. The American public needs to know whether Charlie Kirk was killed because of the direction he was taking that organization. And if there is any evidence of nefarious outside influence (whether foreign or domestic) over an organization with this much sway over American elections, that power needs to be held to account. The backgrounds of people in Kirk's inner circle (including whether anyone had undisclosed ties to intelligence agencies or foreign entities) haven't been publicly examined as part of any investigation, despite it being expected by some to be a reasonable standard practice in political assassination cases. An independent, bipartisan commission with subpoena power (chaired by an appointee of the Chief Justice, not any politician) would have the authority and the independence to build a complete public record. Not to replace the trial. Not to target anyone. Just to answer the questions that the trial never will. The alternative is to let those questions go unanswered and to let possible conspiracy theories fill the silence instead. For any lover of truth, this should be a welcome inquiry. For those who care, it will bring clarity. For those who don’t, it should hardly affect their lives unless it dutifully surfaces information which all Americans deserve to know.
